The Week in Social Media

Hillevi Lausten January 14th, 2011 No Comments

Hello, and welcome to another “Week in Social Media.”
Although 2011 has just started, 2010 is still fresh in our minds, so I will use the chance to concentrate on the past, the present and the future. As reported in my last post, much happened during the past year, especially on the Web and in social media.
Let’s take a look at the Internet itself first. Have you any idea how many websites were added in 2010? Or how many people used [...]

Angie Argabrite November 2nd, 2010 No Comments

“Powerful Social Expressions” is a series showcasing some of ERWW PR’s most successful uses of social media in the past year.
Headstrong: A Four-Part Series
Since agency president Marian Salzman’s successful brain tumor removal in July 2007, she’s donated her time and PR expertise to Massachusetts General—the hospital where she had the operation—and to several organizations that assist soldiers who’ve endured brain injury.
She also commemorated the milestone in a personal and moving multipart blog series, entitled “Headstrong” and featured on the Huffington [...]

Bring Back the Old Gap Logo!

Colleen Cleary October 7th, 2010 1 Comment

Maybe it’s because I spent the better half of my high school years folding and refolding the denim wall at the Gap, but I for one am not thrilled with the new logo design.
Gap quietly introduced the new logo on its homepage while ramping up communications support for its denim recycling program. The creative for the recycling program not only doesn’t include the new Gap logo…it doesn’t include any logo.
Soon after the new logo debuted, fashion, design and marketing blogs [...]

Growing Up Social

Romey Louangvilay June 25th, 2010 5 Comments

As marketers work around the clock to leverage the newest social media platform, I can’t help but reflect on my first uses of social media. I’m a firm believer that you can’t evolve or grow without knowing your roots and learning from your past—and I realize now that in my past, I was engaged in social media before there was such a thing as “social media.”
It was about 13 years ago when I created my first site—a “Power Rangers” fan [...]

Susan English March 4th, 2010 2 Comments

Capturing an audience’s undivided attention is one of the most powerful yet challenging goals for today’s communicators. At Euro RSCG Worldwide PR we often recommend events as a weapon of choice in waging this battle, because they can provide an opportunity to fully engage the audience, taking participants away from everyday distractions and placing them within our clients’ sphere of influence.
We all understand the disruptions of the daily grind, especially with the expansion of mobile communication technology. In fact, I’m [...]

2010: Year of the Dads?

Morgan Calef February 25th, 2010 No Comments

Diaper bags, baby bottles, pacifiers…daddy bloggers?  Digital strategist Jessica Smith called 2010 the “Year of the Daddy Blogger,” and I think she’s got it right.
We’re all familiar with the top mommy bloggers and aware of how much pull they have in the social media world. What we’re not so familiar with is that moms aren’t the only parents blogging these days.
In late summer, the New York Times claimed that it’s time for dads’ turn in the spotlight, with more and [...]

Marketing in a Reputation-Based Economy

Matt Balogh February 16th, 2010 1 Comment

Cred—short for street credit, slang for your reputation. Defined as “commanding a level of respect due to experience or knowledge.” Cred is traditionally associated with young, trendy people in urban areas. In Marketing 2.0, however, it’s a unit of exchange within the emerging reputation-based economy. Simple terms: more cred equals more value; more value equals more dedicated customers; more dedicated customers equals more money.
So, how’s your cred?
There are several different types of reputations on the Internet, each impacting and impacted by new media differently. Google, [...]

Social Media Emerges as Community Glue

The inaugural One Young World summit that concluded on Wednesday in London wasn’t just a gathering of hundreds of tomorrow’s world leaders. Don’t get me wrong: The energy of the more than 600 delegates from 100-plus countries, the passion of their debates and the progress that their resolutions made toward finding solutions to problems such as economic injustice, climate change and excessive corporate power were all substantial and meaningful.
But the leadership summit wasn’t just about the delegates [...]

The Power of One Young World

Every generation assumes it has been handed the world’s problems because the one that preceded it didn’t quite master the agenda. In the rebellious 1960s, the baby boomers demonstrated noisily against established powers and ideas. But in the case of today’s energetic and engaged 20-somethings—the Real-Time Generation—I think assuming responsibility isn’t as much about disappointment in prior leadership (although there’s certainly cause for that) as it is about the power of the new tools. Thanks to the [...]
