The Week in Social Media

A lot happened this week: Facebook became the most visited website in the U.S., surpassing Google; Twitter announced its At Platform; Foursquare is becoming a phenomenon, gaining 100,000 new users (I bet it will be 200,000 per week in no time). All this said, let’s take these facts and try to understand what’s happening on a larger scale. That’s what my links are about this week.

Foursquare Comes Into Its Own

Foursquare, the growing location-based social networking game that allows users to “check in” at various venues, was plagued with reports of users getting robbed earlier this year. Mashable even did an article about it.
If there was anyone who doubted this social networking game would survive the backlash, they haven’t been to the South by Southwest Interactive Festival (SXSW). Foursquare (fourth link) is getting more users every day, and I believe it’s not going to end anytime soon. About ChatRoulette—though a couple ChatRoulette-like sites have come up these last few weeks, the original is getting more and more popular, and it’s starting to interest advertisers (last link).
